Microsoft’s Live Mesh

Have you heard about this new service? Yes it is from the company that Linux lovers would rather puncture their ear drums than hear here the name…Microsoft. Live Mesh is the perfect blend of Windows Live Sky Drive and Windows Live Folder Share. You can sync between computers, access select files online, and add permissions so that others can share and access these items as well.

AllThingsNerdy, what would it take to make this the unstoppable app? Well grasshopper, a limit of 5GB of online space takes out the option of using this as a one-stop shop for backup and synchronization unless your have a remote backup computer that you can leave connected.

Bottom line, is AllThingsNerdy using this on his/her computer right now? Oh, yeah.

Lifehacker don’t know Yodlee

Lifehacker.com is by far one of the best blogs on the Internet. They cover a barrage of topics and are always good and to the point. So let me get to the point as well.

Lifehacker has covered many personal finance sites expensr, wesabe, etc. but they have not mentioned Yodlee MoneyCenter? In all of the posts they have on their website their loyal readers try to call out from the comments section boasting Yodlee’s site but their cries fall on deaf ears. Take a look at the comment section on any relevant post from Lifehacker and you will see that I am not the only fan boy of Yodlee.

Get your finance shit together. Tighten up your game.

So in this blog post I will not even link to those other flashy, new web 2.0 sites but I will send a shout to Yodlee MoneyCenter. Thanks for your free service and fantastic customer service. http://moneycenter.yodlee.com

Note: This blog post also applies to countless other news sites and blogs but I have choosen Lifehacker to be my whipping boy just because I had to mention someone and I figured this would raise some eyebrows.

Plaxo - The solution for the rest of us

Do you know Plaxo?  You should.

Plaxo LogoPlaxo is an online address book, calendar, and task manager that syncs with Microsoft Hotmail, Google Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL, Mac, Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, and your mobile phone.

The initial idea behind Plaxo was to have other contacts signed up for the service as well and therefore your address book would be updated automatically if the person ever made any changes to, for example, their phone number.  Oh but it can do so much more than that.

There is no need to mention their excellent online interface because as soon as you get Plaxo set up you won’t even noticed that is working.  It seamlessly works in the background to sync all of your data.

I currently sync Plaxo to Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Work Outlook - Exchange Server, and Home Outlook.  My Home Outlook is then used to sync to my PDA/phone (T-Mobile Dash: excellent phone by the way).  It works like a dream and cannot imagine my life without it.

I definitely will not neglect to tell you all of this is covered under their free service!  See the Free vs. Premium services breakdown below.

Welcome to Scrybe

Probably the most beautiful (powerful) web apps I have seen.  It looks and acts just like a desktop app.  This is the future of apps.  I have said it before and I will say it again, operating systems will not be needed for many things even in the near future.  To a remedial extent, this is true today.

What about Scrybe?  It is a calendar, list, and power notepad that allows off-line access and automatic syncing when you are online.  It ease of user interface is only paralleled by its designer’s foresight for thinking of the smallest details.

Welcome to Scrybe

Yodlee MoneyCenter

Absolutely, positively the best personal financial management tool out there. This beats Microsoft Money and Quicken hands down. Its destroys any other web based money management app without question.

Yodlee offers a free money management tool that is perfect for the person who wants to get all their finances in a row. It has all the essential tools like Microsoft Money has, but without all the extras that you don’t need. It is like a light has shown down upon me.

Thank you Yodlee MoneyCenter, thank you.

Try it today, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Online Movie Download - Unbox, iTunes, CinemaNow, Movielink

Are all major newscasters retarded?  How can I be more blunt?  You are all dumb and actually degrade other’s intelligence.

Lately, there has been hype all around Amazon Ubox and Apple iTunes for their new, movie / TV download / rental service.  I am not even going to link to their websites.

This quote from Bill Car of Amazon sums up most of what is being said is most major articles that I have seen.

“This makes us the destination for film and TV lovers online,” Carr said. “No one else offers this.”

No one else?  Are F***ing crazy?  You ignorant sluts!  Considering I watched a DVD from a direct competitor (for the same or less price and just as good if not better interface) over a month ago makes me a little sick to my stomach.

Are big companies that self-involved and financially secure that they do not need to do market research anymore or is it the fact that they do not want to acknowledge these better services?  I desperately want YOU to decide!

Let me just name a couple of the ORIGINAL services:

CinemaNow
Movielink

My plea:  Please, major news sites, don’t be ignorant when reporting just because another large company has copied a great service from a small company doesn’t mean you have to help perpetuate the problem.

Yahoo! Real Estate - Homes, Mortgage Rates, School Reports and more!

Just another awesome service from Yahoo.   Yahoo! Real Estate allows you to search by location, find apartments, post listings, and much more.  It has a great user interface and is sure to be a useful tool if you are looking for a place to live or are getting ready to purchase a home.

Yahoo! Real Estate has many tools at your disposal other than just finding a house.  You can also research communities, find loans, and utilize the integrated map feature to find the homes.

VideoJug - Life Explained, On Film.

VideoJug is a great website the has a growing collection of high quality, very informative instructional videos.  To name a few:

  • How to tie a full Windsor knot
  • Give yourself a testicular exam
  • Make Cobb salad
  • How to brush your teeth

This site is a great resource for anyone.  With a growing collection of great videos this site has now made it into my bookmarks.

Is MyHeritage an advanced version of Riya?

MyHeritage can keep track of family photos, create a family website, build a family tree, and boasts facial recognition. Their facial recognition searches your photos that you upload and automatically identifies your family members. Best of all most of their features are free.

Now to be fair (because I am Riya fan), I am not sure how complete this service is or how accurate the facial recognition is compared to Riya. Riya’s features have been coming along nicely and I am in no way saying that you should use either / or. I would venture to say that because of its specialty Riya has far greater facial recognition capabilities and its goals later in life are probably far more boastful.

So MyHeritage has some cool features that a family centric person might want to check out. Best of all, some of them are free.
