Yahoo!, Microsoft, and Google - and then there were two

Let me weigh in my thought on the Yahoo!/Microsoft talks. Although it sounds like for the time being that the talks are over and Yahoo! is not interested, this did raise a lot of eyebrows. You can read other articles on the clash or benefit of the potential Microsoft and Yahoo! merger but I would like to think about an alternative: Google buys Yahoo!.

This partnership seems to be more in-line with both companies cultures. At least more in-line than a Microsoft/Yahoo! merger. A couple of creative powerhouses (Google -> Yahoo!) more concerned with innovative and pleasing customers and letting the money follow rather than forcing customer into things and thus sucking the bucks right out them (Microsoft). Don’t get me wrong I think Microsoft has done some great things as of late with their web initiatives, but they are just not quite on the same page as a Yahoo! or a Google.

Ah Snap thats cool

Check out this new way to search. A reader of this blog (ok it was my brother) showed this to me. It is really cool. This search engine brings up suggestions while you are typing (i.e. google suggest, yahoo instant search) but the real magic when you hit enter on your search term.

Showing the search results you can browse through the results by simply hitting the down arrow button or by clicking on a result to make it active. On the right side a preview of that page will magically appear as if from a far off world whose name we don't know. Hit enter *alakazaam* you are there or by click the preview or the button that says view site in this window you can load the page in snap's right window so that you don't have to leave your search results just to check out the page.

If you are loading pages in snap's right window I would suggest a large monitor to avoid the dredded horizontal scroll.

Who was first

Who way first to spider this blog?  MSN / Live.com / Microsoft.

Searching the other search engines resulted in none of my new posts.  I have been moved to wordpress for about a week now and we can see that Live.com / MSN has beat everyone else to the punch.

Do they do this on a consistant basis?  I don't know.  That would be something worth knowing.

I want Live bad

I just realized that I really want Windows Live to be amazing. I have been searching many years for the webapp that I can call the best of the best. Could this be it? Could this be one of the first online services I will pay for so that I can really get its full potential…time will tell.

For now I do know they are moving one step closer with Microsoft purchase of FolderShare. This will allow you access files from multiple computers anytime, etc…

Article on the acquistion.
