Benefit from my news addiction

Guys, in case you didn’t know already, I am a news junky. I utilize Yahoo’s My Web to save all pages that of interest that day. You can benefit from my wasted time and addiction by subscribing to my My Web xml feed here.

Does anyone know of any web apps that allow you to search another individual’s My Web? This would come in handy because of course I can search my own My Web but it would benefit you even more if you search my My Web. Anyway just food for thought.

Chatsum

Chatsum is a chatting tool that allows you to chat with people from your browser with people who are looking at the same site you are. Very cool idea that reminds me of a persistant chat room that is now built into every website.

  • If you are a website publisher you can see what others are saying about your site or talk to them.
  • Families could use it to goto there family website and instantly be able to chat.
  • People could goto their city’s website to chat with people in the same geographic area.

Many possibilities exist but one thing is for sure this is a pretty cool tool.  Its only possibility for downfall would be the lack of users, it must have enough people using it to make it work.  Secondly, but less of a problem, is that lack of private messaging - maybe you would like to send a message to just one user on that site.

Less is more

MySpace is so clustered with ads and lousy layouts it is impossible to bear looking at the site. Less is more. Why use MySpace when there are so many better alternatives. This is only due to, what I will call, "the fad effect" where a few of the right people latch on and it blossoms from there.

Let me list a few better ones:

  1. linkedin.com
  2. orkut.com
  3. tagworld.com
  4. 360.yahoo.com

See a full list via wikipedia

TagWorld - The replacement that won’t replace

TagWorld

Well I think I have found the solution to the MySpace vs Facebook issue. It is TagWorld.

Allows you to manage friends, pictures, music, video, etc.

BENEFITS
- User interface is awesome
- Speed is an A+
- Feature set is as good if not better than any other.

PROBLEM
- But of course the deal breaker is to get all of your friends who use MySpace and Facebook and have established a web presence there to come over to TagWorld.

C'est la vie

MySpace = bla

myspaceThis sums up my experience with MySpace lately. Between the ads and sluggish servers I wish facebook would open its doors or another site would step up to the plate.

MySpace vs Facebook

Here is a short break down of why you may want to choose one over the other.

Facebook (http://www.facebook.com)
Pros

  • Well integrated into school life
  • Awesome interface - clean and easy to use
  • little ads

Cons

  • Must have a school email to join.
  • Lacking features that could put it over the top
  • Ties to the CIA? (conspiracy theorists say yes!)

MySpace (http://www.myspace.com)
Pros

  • Tons of features
  • Allows anyone to signup

Cons

  • Tons of ads
  • Navigation and ease of use of the website is lacking in some ways

My opinion is that MySpace's ability for anyone to signup and feature rich environment actually outweigh its bad user interface and Facebooks school integration tools.
